Natural Parks of Savoy in winter

Former capital of the Dukes of Savoy, Chambéry has preserved certain scent of Italy. Classified as "City of Art and History", the city is filled with the Piedmontese influence: streets with arcades, painted walls, trompe-l'œil, ironworks, facades surmounted by large cornices; an ideal setting for urban strolling and shopping.

(Available in winter except Christmas vacation and February)

Your program:

Day 1

An ideal place to get lost in for your first day in our amazing region. The sights of the city center can only be seen if you are curious. Walk its tiny streets and alleyways, just round a corner you might see real "traboules lyonnaises” (rock winding staircases). Certain passages, at the back of buidings constitute a real maze linking courtyards invisible from the street. Some of them open to small squares or private mansions. Getting lost in these alleyways is an experience not to be missed while discovering the historic heart of Chambéry and its discreet heritage of bourgeois houses and private mansions. Some dating back to the 12th century.

Arrival at your ***** hotel, in the heart of the historic center of Chambéry and at the foot of the Ducs de Savoie Castle. If these walls could talk! The reception area was called “la Vieille Boutique” when the famous French writer Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a regular. The atmosphere is cozy and almost mythical. You will also appreciate its ideal location to explore this medieval town, stroll the pedestrian streets, indulge in shopping and some wonderful restaurants.

Free dinner in town.

Day 2

This morning, we go up to a viewpoint at 15.30m. We will have a wonderful view over the Bourget Lake and numerous mountain ranges, including the Mont-Blanc. We then leave for an easy hike with snowshoes, between alpine pastures and forests.

We will have a traditional cooked lunch in a typical Savoyard farm, situated in a pastoral setting.  In the afternoon, we will discover on the Savoie Grand Revard plateau and approach the little Canada area by dog sledding. Return to our five-star hotel in Chambéry.

Free dinner in town.

 Day 3

In the morning, we will enter the world of the Chartreux Monks. We visit the cellars and the distillery where the famous liquor is produced. Lunch in a typical inn in the heart of the mountain range.

To help digest our lunch, we will take a small hike to the Monastère de la Grande Chartreuse. A remarkable moment, in a very special and hushed atmosphere. We then go the chalet where we will be spending the night, isolated in the heart of the Chartreuse at 900m in a natural cirque. This place offers landscapes of a rare beauty with successions of waterfalls and impressive limestone cliffs 500 m high.

Dinner included and night spent in the silence of the mountains.

 Day 4

Today, from a pass dominated by a mythic mountain, we start our hike on an easy path between alpine pastures and forests. We can study the impressive north face and the summits of the Massif de la Chartreuse.

We descend toward the vineyards which were created during the biggest natural catastrophe that ever happened in the Alps: the landslide of the Granier Mountain in 1248. Wine tasting and buffet du terroir with a welcoming and renowned wine maker.

Back to Chambéry passing by a route which has stunning views.

End of the journey.
