Day 1 Arrival in Tours

Arrival at the end of the morning at Tours train station and transfer to the city centre.

Lunch in Tours followed by a guided tour of the town.

Check in at the hotel and rest of the afternoon free.

Dinner and night in Tours .

 

Day 2 Day Chambord and Chenonceau

In the morning, a guided tour of Chambord The tour guides talk about the castle's singular history in the 16th century and the emblematic elements of its architecture. Visitors also have the privilege of taking hidden staircases leading to areas closed to the public (mezzanine floors or attics).

Lunch at Chambord then drive to Chenonceau.

Boat trip on the Cher river and discovery of the castle of Chenonceau.

Dinner and accommodation at tours.

Day 3 Clos Lucé

In the morning, visit Le Clos Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci's last residence. Enter the rooms of the château and imagine Leonardo living and working. In the Leonardo da Vinci Park, experience the Master's creative universe.

Lunch at Clos Lucé For a taste experience in an unusual setting, let yourself be tempted by the menu of the priory inn in the Clos Lucé Amboise. First of all, the setting (renaissance style with matching crockery and a dressed-up waitress) invites us to a timeless interlude.

Guided walk in the village of Amboise before visiting a cellar, followed by a wine tasting.

Dinner and night in Tours.

Day 4 - Azay le rideau and local products

Azay-le-Rideau castle is built on an island and a subtle blend of French traditions and Italian decor. It is an icon of the new art of building in the Val-de-Loire in the 16th century.  Its landscaped park, designed in the second half of the 19th century, offers a true natural setting.

Local lunch based on tapped pears, a local speciality.

You will then discover the Espace Culturel Osier Vannerie, another Val de Loire tradition. To end the afternoon, visit the troglodytic valley of Goupillières.

Day 5 Market and Villandry

Free morning to enjoy the market in the old town of Tours.

Lunch in Tours

In the afternoon, head for the gardens of Villandry.  The site is best known for its gardens, spread over four levels, which combine aesthetics, diversity and harmony. Discover the decorative vegetable garden, the water garden, the formal gardens...

Dinner and overnight stay in Tours.

Day 6 - Saumur and Fontevraud The Abbey

The squires of the Cadre Noir will meet you in the large arena during the Matinales to present and explain the work of their young horses.

And to go further... the classic guided tour will allow you to discover the large arena, the saddlery and the stables.

Lunch in Saumur

Visit of Fontevraud L'abbaye. The abbey owed its power to the Plantagenets and its close links with Eleanor of Aquitaine. Queen of France then of England, she spent her last years there. Her bed lies at the heart of the abbey church alongside those of Henri II Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart.

Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

 

Day 7 - Tuffeau and Blois quarry

In the morning, a visit to an old Tuffeau quarry will take you back to the strange and secret world of the pearl workers and stonemasons of yesteryear; this tuffeau was used to build the most beautiful castles in the Loire Valley. Today it has been partly transformed into a mushroom farm.

Lunch on the spot based on mushrooms.

In the afternoon, visit of Blois. In Blois, all roads lead to the castle, and its striking façade is a unique demonstration of the evolution of architecture between the 13th and 17th centuries. Richly decorated and superbly restored in the 19th century, this royal residence was home to no less than seven kings and ten queens of France.

Departure after breakfast and transfer to Tours train station.
