The Dordogne benefits from a very temperate climate which will make your stays pleasant in all seasons.
Here are more than 1000 castles, manors and manor houses in the Dordogne, most of which are located along the valleys of the Dordogne, Vézère, Isle and Dordogne rivers.
Gastronomy is one of the pillars of the Périgourdine life, each village or bastide of the Périgord has its fat, truffle or cep markets (in season) without forgetting the International Gourmet Book Fair which takes place in Périgueux every 2 years!
Truffle festival and culinary academy of foie gras and truffles in Sarlat: in January (over a weekend)
Walnut festival in Sarlat : in February
Sarlat Fest'Oie : beginning of March (over a weekend)
"The Truffle of Perigueux" in July and August in Perigueux

Day 1 Arrival

Transfer to your hotel from Brive-la-Gaillarde airport (departure from Paris)or Périgueux train station.

Installation at the hotel.

Dinner and night.

Day 2 Sarlat la Caneda and sailing on the Dordogne River

Departure to Sarlat la Canéda and guided visit of the town, its narrow streets of the Middle Ages, its large sunny squares, lively on market days ...

Lunch at La Roque Gageac.

In the afternoon, navigation in Gabarre on the Dordogne river starting from La Roque Gageac. During 1 hour, discovery of superb viewpoints over the valley.

After the cruise, your guide will make you discover the village.

Dinner and night.

Day 3 Lascaux and Montignac

Departure in the morning in the direction of the Lascaux II cave. During the guided tour, discover replicas of polychrome paintings executed nearly 17,000 years ago.

Lunch in the village of Montignac

In the afternoon, discover the village at the entrance to the Vallée Vézère. The walk continues through the medieval streets lined with houses on stilts or half-timbered houses, past a wash-house or a fountain... Return to La Roque Gageac via the Vézère valley.

Day 4 Cahors - Saint Cirq Lapopie

Morning guided tour of the historic centre of Cahors. Discover heritage treasures from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, not forgetting the famous Valentré Bridge.

Lunch in Cahors.

Departure to the village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, one of the major sites of the Lot valley. The medieval village has many historical monuments. Visit and free time in the town.  Visit of the Dol St Gery estate and tasting of Cahors wines.

Dinner and night.

Day 5 Markets and truffles

In the morning, departure for the Sarlat Market. At the traditional open-air market of Sarlat, succumb to local products throughout the year in an exceptional setting!

Lunch in a truffle farm restaurant and then visit of the truffle field.

Day 6 - Martel and train ride in the valley

Morning departure for Martel and boarding on the steam train from the upper Quercy. A 13 km round trip, more than 80 metres high on a ledge, to discover the Dordogne Valley and its admirable panoramas.

Lunch in a restaurant in Martel.

In the afternoon, guided visit of the village called "city of the seven towers" during a walk in its narrow streets. Admire the covered square of La Halle, the Raymondie palace or the Saint-Maur church.

Day 7 - Prehistory and troglodytes

In the morning, visit the village of BEYNAC ET CAZENAC. You will discover the narrow stone streets, blond stone houses, its small squares with the charm of the old days and its districts also known as the "barry".

Route to Les Eyzies de Tayac, world capital of Prehistory. Visit of the national museum of Prehistory then lunch in Les Eyzies de Tayac.

In the afternoon, visit of La Roque st Christophe. This real limestone wall, one kilometre long and 80 metres high, has been hollowed out by a hundred or so rock shelters and long aerial terraces. These natural cavities have been occupied by man since prehistoric times and then modified to become a fort and a city from the Middle Ages until the beginning of the Renaissance.

Day 8 - Rocamadour and the Padirac Abyss

Departure in the morning in the direction of the Gouffre de Padirac, the most famous abyss in Europe. Boat trip on the underground river at a depth of more than 130 metres. Departure for Rocamadour. Lunch in a traditional inn.

Visit of Rocamadour: clinging to the cliff, this village is a superposition of houses and churches.

Guided descent on foot to the sanctuaries. The ascent will be by lift.

In the morning, transfer  to Brive-la-Gaillarde airport  to Paris or Périgueux railway station.
