Lagrasse (included as one of the “most beautifull villages of France”) is about 40 kilometres south-east of Carcassonne in the Aude department of Languedoc-Roussillon.

In the valley of the River Orbieu, Lagrasse is in the foothills of the Pyrenees in a region renowned for the wine produced in the surrounding hills - this is the Corbieres wine region, the largest wine-producing region in France.

Lagrasse is an attractive village, and dates from the time the abbey was built - permission for the construction was given by Charlemagne in 783.

The two 'highlights' of the village are perhaps the Abbey and the bridges, although the narrow medieval streets of the village itself are also very attractive.

Several beautiful houses can be seen, especially around the central square in Lagrasse. The central square also houses a covered hall, giving the artists even more opportunities to display their works...

Lunch in Lagrasse

In the middle of the afternoon departure for the visit of the Abbey of Fontfroide in free visit. One of the best preserved Cistercian monuments in France. Fontfroide Abbey was founded in 1093 on land given to some Benedictine monks by the Vicomte de Narbonne. Abbey takes its name from the source in the vicinity, the Fons Frigidus, Cold Fontaine. Besides water, the monks could find in the massive, wood and stone for the construction of the monastery. But Fontfroide really gets started after 1145 and its attachment to the Cistercian Order .

Add an extra day of discovery of Languedoc around its wines or visit the medieval town of Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site or Toulouse the pink town. Ask your expert his best hotels in town.
