Day 6- Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaine de Vaucluse & return to Paris

In the morning, you will meet your guide and leave for Fontaine de Vaucluse.
The village of Fontaine de Vaucluse lies at the end of a narrow valley and takes its name from the beautiful and mysterious spring that feeds the river Sorgue. This spring comes from deep underground - no one knows how deep.
In the 1950s, Jacques Yves Cousteau came with a submersible to explore the depths, but he did not find the bottom. Since then, a probe has reached a sand bed at a depth of 308 meters, but the source itself comes from an even deeper place. It is said that all the rainwater of the Luberon and other surrounding mountains comes from this one spring, which represents a catchment area of 1100 km². During most of the year, all you can see is a deep blue pool of water at the foot of towering cliffs. But in the spring or during heavy rains, it lives up to its name, with a flow of 200 m3 per second - it is one of the largest springs in the world.

Road to L'Isle sur la Sorgue, capital of antiques and Venice of Provence
More a town than a village, with its tall plane trees and green streams, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the "island on the Sorgue", a few kilometers from the source of the river, in Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue divides into two streams. All this is due to the crystalline, emerald water that flows there, shallow and calm enough, but powerful enough to have brought industry, wealth, and the accumulations of architecture and population that accompany wealth. The paddlewheels bear witness to the textile and paper industries that flourished in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and the grand mansions that dot the town were the homes of the wealthy merchants who took advantage of the river's power.
L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue has been called the "Venice of Provence" - that's an exaggeration of the abundance of waterways, but the various parts of the Sorgue are never far away.
There are many permanent antique stores, art galleries and interior design stores, grouped in several "villages".
This is a time when the streets are full of color and life. In the heart of the Village Saint-Paul-Le-Marais, nearly 200 small antique and design stores make it an ideal place to find unusual objects! And if you don't find what you're looking for, the Marais hosts numerous flea markets from early spring to mid-autumn!

Lunch at leisure.

AFTERNOON: In the afternoon, transfer to the Avignon train station where you will take your express train to Paris (2 hours by TGV).
Transfer from the Paris train station to your hotel in St Germain des Prés

The Ile de la Cité : Dive into the historical heart of Paris, passing by Notre Dame, the conciergerie, the place dauphine, the Sainte Chapelle, the flower market... The Latin Quarter : Dive into the cradle of Parisian culture, the Sorbonne, the Jussieu campus, but also the medieval part with the Arènes de Lutèce, the Cluny museum...
You will meet your guide at the hotel after the visit.

More a town than a village, with its tall plane trees and green streams, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the “island on the Sorgue”, a few kilometers from the source of the river, in Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the Sorgue divides into two streams. All this is due to the crystalline, emerald water that flows there, shallow and calm enough, but powerful enough to have brought industry, wealth, and the accumulations of architecture and population that accompany wealth. The paddlewheels bear witness to the textile and paper industries that flourished in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and the grand mansions that dot the town were the homes of the wealthy merchants who took advantage of the river’s power.
L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue has been called the “Venice of Provence” – that’s an exaggeration of the abundance of waterways, but the various parts of the Sorgue are never far away.
There are many permanent antique stores, art galleries and interior design stores, grouped in several “villages”.
This is a time when the streets are full of color and life. In the heart of the Village Saint-Paul-Le-Marais, nearly 200 small antique and design stores make it an ideal place to find unusual objects! And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, the Marais hosts numerous flea markets from early spring to mid-autumn!
